Both the St. Francis Basilica and the Church of The Transfiguration chose porphyry to provide an historic context. Many of the old Cathedrals of Europe are surrounded by porphyry streets.
The Church of the Transfiguration is a realtively new church in Orleans, MA but was designed to look like a traditional Catherdral.
St. Francis Basilica is a church that was built between 1869-1886. In 2000-2001 a porphyry labrinyth was designed and installed to replace some crumbling local flagstone. The Labrinyth is a replica of the famed Cathedral at Chartes. http://www.labyrinthos.net/photo_library14.html
