About Us

Porphyry is a natural volcanic rock similar to granite. Throughout history Porphyry was considered a royal stone by emperors, pharaohs and kings and was treasured for its color and hardness. Since the Roman era, roads, public spaces, and squares have been paved with porphyry. Many exist to this day throughout Europe.

Mondial Porfidi, an Italian quarrier with generations of experience has developed a modern operation in San Luis de la Paz, Mexico, bringing European technology and management, allowing for an excellent value and fast service to the United States

Seven years ago Miles Chaffee, president of Milestone Imports, obtained exclusive rights to the stone and now distributes Mexico Porphyry through out North America and Asia. “There is something magical about this stone” says Miles Chaffee. Peter Eichorn of Eichorn Masonry Artisans who installed the porphyry at the Santa Lucia Preserve in Carmel, CA., said Mexico Porphyry was chosen, “…because it is simply the most beautiful product on the market.”

Architects, designers and builders have embraced the material because of its enduring qualities. Always desired for its hardness, porphyry is impermeable, chemical resistant and unaffected by freeze-thaw cycles. Once installed it is virtually maintenance free.

Projects include:

St. Francis Cathedral labyrinth, Santa Fe, NM,
Santa Lucia Preserve in Carmel, CA.,
Hyatt Regency, Denver Convention Center
Yonkers, NY Historic harbor
Disneyland Hong Kong, Fantasy Land
